1995 COOKSON Farr Performance Cruiser, Kai Mana is easily configured into a docile long-distance cruiser to the ports of your dreams!

Offshore there is no substitute for seaworthiness! On that lonely day when you are unfortunate enough to be caught far offshore in a real blow, when the skies are grey, the heavens are pouring rain, the wind is of gale or greater force and the waves resemble small mountains, Kai Mana with her stiff carbon hull and seaworthy design will bring you home safely and no worse for wear.

The marginal righting moment inherent in most cruiser-racer designs (too much furniture-not enough keel) is compensated by decreasing the size of the optimal rig, so the result is an underpowered yacht that plods slowly and rocks and rolls through the swells And that is supposed to be Sailing in Comfort? Sailing performance adds greatly to comfort at sea.

In cruising mode Kai Mana is a gentle, well balanced and a delightful boat that TWO PEOPLE can comfortably sail in near breathless conditions or 40 knots of air. The Quantum Kevlar cruising triradial mainsail only hoists up to the runner hounds (still 45 ) and Kai Mana becomes a docile masthead rig. Snug the backstay and tighten the runners to 2.5 metric tons, stow the checkstays and forget your worries. If the wind is light to moderate we use the Quantum 141% #1 and if the wind is heavy we use a Sobstad #5... Off the wind hoist the 3A fractional asymmetrical 1.5 oz spinnaker off the tack line (no pole), and jibe the spinnaker like a big headsail. Two people can easily sail the boat in this configuration. It is faster and more stable and gives a better ride than any cruiser-racer on the planet... For long hauls Kai Mana has an additional drop-in and pre-plumbed 55 gallon auxiliary fuel tank.

Add the ability to make your own freshwater (36 gal per day), the ability to refrigerate fresh and frozen food (so you don t have to eat freeze-dried food a goat would refuse) and the ability to manufacture your own electricity by solar panels, along with the ability to ride the wind makes distant dreams attainable.
