Joe spent his childhood boating on Casco Bay, Maine. He migrated to Florida in 1959 and continued his involvement with boating.

Joe ran a charter fishing boat out of Boca Raton before moving on to Captain in the private yachting sector.

Joe came ashore in 1996 to join Peter Kehoe and his team.
